Red Cliffs Experience by Rail

Ride the rails to experience the beauty of Moab, Utah at the Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge! Take a daylight ride on Amtrak from Denver to Grand Junction, Colorado viewing awesome scenery. Motor coach to beautiful Moab for 4 nights at the Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge. You will tour Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park by jet boat. If you are feeling adventurous, you can add a 2 hour Hummer tour of the famous slick rock or go horseback riding. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Capitol Reef before you travel scenic Highway 12 through Escalante National Monument. The tour ends up at Bryce Canyon for a rim walk for the last night. Travel to Salt Lake City for a city tour before your flight home.

Tour includes: 1 night accommodations in Denver, Amtrak transportation from Denver to Grand Junction Colorado in coach seating, 4 nights accommodations at Red Cliffs Lodge, 1 night accommodations at Bryce Canyon, 13 meals—6 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 4 Dinners, all included attractions, taxes and gratuities on included meals, step-on guide in Utah, transfers in Colorado and Utah to Salt Lake City with city tour and JOY TOUR Director.

Day 1 – Make your way to Denver Colorado where you will check into your hotel for the night. There will have time for shopping, browsing and dining this evening. Sheraton Hotel Downtown, Denver, CO

Day 2 – Breakfast is included at the hotel. Afterwards you will be transferred to the Amtrak station. All aboard the California Zephyr for your daylight ride to Grand Junction, Colorado. You will enjoy spending time in the very large glass dome area viewing the panoramic scenery of the magnificent countryside. Seeing the country by train is a very unique experience that ranges from relaxing in the dome area to socializing in the café/lounge. Delicious meals are available in the dining car. You will arrive at approximately 4 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colorado. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to the beautiful Red Cliffs Lodge, your home for the next 4 nights. The Red Cliffs Lodge is nestled high on the magnificent Red Rock Cliffs. A prime rib dinner  with wine is included this evening at the lodge. Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab UT (B,D)

Day 3 – Depart this morning for a scenic raft trip on the Colorado River.  Travel upstream from Red Cliffs and launch the rafts onto the Colorado River at Hittle Bottom backed by an astounding view of magnificent Fisher Towers. Calm waters on this journey provide relaxation and some time to learn about the unique geology of Castle Valley. After a wonderful float, you’ll see Red Cliffs Lodge just around the bend signaling an end to the excursion. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the amenities and activities available at Red Cliffs Lodge.  Your tour director will also organize an optional shipping trip to the town of Moab for those who are interested. Tonight enjoy a cowboy cookout dinner at the resort near the banks of the Colorado River. Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab UT (B,D)

Day 4 – Breakfast is included this morning. Today you travel to Dead Horse Point State Park for one of the most spectacular scenes in the southwest. You will see the expanse of Canyonlands National Park stretching to the south and the mighty Colorado River 2,000 feet below. A picnic lunch is included. This afternoon, you visit the Arches National Park for sightseeing and short hiking. The brand new 18,000 square foot visitors center will introduce you to the unique geologic forces that created the highest concentration of natural arches in the world with over 2,000 named arches within its 73,000 acre boundary. Visit all the park highlights including Park Avenue, Balance Rock, The Windows and Delicate Arch.  Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab UT (B,L)

Day 5 – Breakfast is included this morning at the lodge. Today you may relax in the morning or enjoy a full day of exciting activities in the “Adventure Capitol of Utah!” As an option, you may choose to experience the world famous Slickrock the brings thousands of 4WD enthusiasts from around the world to Moab as you take a 2-hour Hummer tour on the Hell’s Revenge Trail. The cost of this option is $95. Or, you may choose horseback riding. Later everyone heads into Moab where lunch is included before you depart on an afternoon Jet Boat Tour of Canyonlands National Park on the Colorado River. The red rock walls reach 2,000 feet above you as you wind through the canyons and learn about the geology and history of this mystical land. After a fun day of activity and sightseeing, return to Red Cliffs Lodge. Red Cliffs Lodge, Moab UT (B,L,D)

Day 6 – Enjoy breakfast before you depart for a full day of touring. Today you will awaken with the anticipation of seeing some of Utah’s most spectacular scenery.  Leave Moab and drive through the town of Green River, skirt the San Rafael Swell, and arrive at Capitol Reef National Park to enjoy a picnic lunch before sightseeing ancient petroglyphs, beautiful rock formations, deep canyons and pioneer history.  After touring in Capitol Reef, enjoy a drive on one of America’s most spectacular roads.  Scenic Highway 12 has been designated as an “All American Road,” the crown jewel of the Scenic Byways system.  First, drive over Boulder Mountain reaching elevations over 9,000 feet with spectacular views of the Water Pocket Fold and beyond.  Travel through Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument, with vast expanses of cream and rose colored Navajo sandstone.  There are dramatic cliffs, high mesas, beautiful streams and deep canyons in multi-hued colors across the 1.9 million acre monument.  In the late afternoon, arrive Bryce Canyon National Park for sightseeing and optional hiking.  The hues and intricate shapes of Bryce Canyon carry even the most mature adult away into a fairyland fantasy.  The Paiute Indians used a word to describe Bryce Canyon that translates into, “red rocks standing like men in a bowl-shaped canyon.”  Mormon settler Ebenezer Bryce, for whom the canyon was named, described it as “a hell of a place to lose a cow.”  After an afternoon of exploration, check into the hotel located just outside the park and join the group for a farewell dinner. Day 7 – Breakfast will be in tour before you check out and board your coach for a scenic ride into Salt Lake City with a tour of the city before going to the airport.  (B)
