The Best Travel Credit Cards

Travel credit cards offer many rewards including sign-up bonuses, discounts, cash back, and loyalty points. There are many travel credit cards to choose from so we’ve narrowed down the list with our recommendations for the best travel credit cards.

  • If you frequently stay at hotels, then consider a hotel rewards card such as the Starwood Card from American Express, Planewhich allows you to earn Starwood points to be redeemed for hotel stays or flights.
  • If airline miles are important to you, consider the American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card which offers 3 times the points on flights. Another great option is the Chase Sapphire Preferred which offers a great signup bonus in addition to ongoing rewards (such as giving two ultimate rewards points per dollar spent on travel and restaurants, and 1 point per $1 spent elsewhere).
  • If you’d like a “no annual fee” credit card, consider the BankAmericard Travel Rewards card, which offers 1.5 points per dollar with no limit or expiration date. If you are a Bank of America customer with a checking/savings account, you would receive an additional 10% customer bonus points on every purchase.
  • ccIf you’re looking for rewards and redemption flexibility, then check out the Discover it Miles, which allows you to double the miles in your first year while earning 1.5 times the miles on every dollar spent. The earned miles can be redeemed on travel expenses or deposited as cash into an account. Also, consider the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite card as it offers two miles per dollar spent. Further, the card allows users to apply 10% miles back as a credit on your billing statement to any kind of travel.
  • Finally, last but not least, the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card offers two miles per dollar spent on all purchases. The card allows you to earn unlimited miles and redeem them for statement credit on travel purchases.

When it comes down to it, you as the consumer need to determine which benefits are most important to you. Once you determine your goals, you’ll be able to narrow which credit card is appropriate for you. Keep in mind that opening too many credit cards at once may temporarily lower your credit score. Also, make sure you check the annual fees. The majority of fees range from $80 to $100 annually so if you don’t plan to use the credit card regularly, be sure to factor in the annual fee to make sure the credit card is worth signing up for. Also, check to see what the foreign transaction fees are if you plan to travel overseas. We hope that you will enjoy the many benefits from these credit cards!
